Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana (DUY) is a flagship initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttarakhand, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Yojana envisions the creation of a vibrant and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem within the academic campuses of the state, with a focused approach toward sectoral specialization through the establishment of Centres of Excellence (CoEs).
These Centres of Excellence will serve as nurturing hubs for innovation, research, and enterprise development, each specializing in specific sectors or thematic areas that align with the strengths, resources, and growth potential of Uttarakhand. The thematic focus of these CoEs will include priority sectors such
- AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy)
- Organic Farming and Sustainable Agriculture
- Tourism and Hospitality
- Agri-Food Processing
- Heritage Management and Cultural Enterprises
- Electronics and Communication Technologies
- Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Robotics
A rigorous selection process will be undertaken to identify suitable academic institutions across the state for hosting these Centres of Excellence.
In addition to catering to students and academic entrepreneurs, these Centres of Excellence will also be opened to youth outside the academic domain, ensuring inclusivity and widespread outreach. Information regarding participation opportunities, programs, and capacity-building interventions will be regularly shared in the public domain through timely communication and outreach efforts, enabling motivated youth across Uttarakhand to benefit from these initiatives.
By creating these sector-specific Centres of Excellence and fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government, the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana aims to build a highly conducive environment for innovation, enterprise creation, and economic growth. As this entrepreneurial ecosystem matures and flourishes, Uttarakhand is poised to enhance its Innovation Index and emerge as a preferred destination for investors, startups, and innovators, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the state.
