The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes that education in India must transition from rote learning to experiential, application-based learning to foster meaningful and positive outcomes for learners. It advocates for an education system that actively nurtures creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, effective communication, risk-taking abilities, and deeper understanding of core subjects across disciplines, at all levels of education.
Within this transformative framework, entrepreneurship education holds a pivotal role. NEP 2020 envisions that entrepreneurial thinking and skills must be integrated into the mainstream curriculum, especially in institutions of higher education, to prepare students for real-world challenges and opportunities. Embedding entrepreneurship education ensures that students are not only equipped with academic knowledge but are also empowered to explore self-employment, enterprise creation, and innovative problem-solving in their chosen fields.
Drawing inspiration from the mandates of NEP 2020, Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana (DUY) has taken significant strides in this direction. To promote application-oriented learning, Short-Term Courses on Vocational Themes and Entrepreneurship have been developed. These courses, once duly approved, will be integrated into the university curriculum, offering students an additional academic credential while simultaneously preparing them for entrepreneurial pursuits
To facilitate seamless access to these learning opportunities, DUY has developed a dedicated online portal to register learners from across Uttarakhand. Through this platform, students can access a structured NEP-aligned Entrepreneurship Module, designed to build their entrepreneurial capacity through a progressive and practical approach.
The Entrepreneurship Module comprises the following key topics:
1. Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Understanding the concept, importance, and scope of entrepreneurship in today’s economy.
2. Ecosystem for New Ventures
Exploring the various stakeholders, support systems, and institutions involved in nurturing startups and entrepreneurial initiatives.
3. Building Business Models
Learning the process of designing, testing, and refining business models for sustainable enterprise creation.
4. Final Project – Business Plan Development
Preparing a comprehensive business plan as a capstone project to demonstrate practical understanding and application of the concepts learned.
5. Small Business Management
Acquiring knowledge about the day-to-day management of small businesses, including operations, finance, marketing, and customer relations.
All of these modules are available through the DUY Portal, enabling learners to pursue structured, self-paced, and industry-relevant entrepreneurship education from anywhere in the state
Through these efforts, Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana is not only aligning with the transformative vision of NEP 2020 but also actively contributing to the development of a future-ready, entrepreneurial workforce in Uttarakhand.
