The Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttarakhand, oversees 124 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) across the state, comprising universities, university campuses, and degree colleges. These institutions offer a wide array of academic programs in the fields of Humanities, Arts, Commerce, Science, etc. In recent years, efforts have also been made to promote entrepreneurship within these institutions. However, the scope of entrepreneurship promotion has largely been confined to workshops and seminars, which alone are not sufficient to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among students.

Research and global best practices indicate that entrepreneurship cannot be effectively imparted through standalone events or lectures. Instead, it requires systematic exposure, guided mentoring, and experiential learning, embedded within a strategic framework to nurture entrepreneurial aspirations meaningfully.

With over four decades of expertise in entrepreneurship education and training, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad has developed a specialized Six-Day Faculty Mentor Development Programme (FMDP) under the flagship initiative Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana, supported by Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Uttarakhand. This immersive and comprehensive programme is designed to empower faculty members from higher educational institutions across Uttarakhand to play a proactive role in fostering entrepreneurship development.

The Faculty Mentor Development Programme (FMDP) is carefully curated to equip educators with the skills, knowledge, and methodologies necessary to effectively mentor and guide aspiring entrepreneurs. The curriculum emphasizes practical learning and active engagement, covering key areas such as:

     • Entrepreneurial Mindset Development
     • Business Ideation and Value Proposition Design
     • Business Model Development
     • Mentorship Techniques and Approaches
     • Ecosystem Mapping and Networking
     • Technology, Innovation, and Commercialization
     • Access to Finance and Resource Mobilization

The programme employs a blend of interactive workshops, real-life case studies, hands-on exercises, and group discussions, fostering collaboration and peer learning among participants. Faculty members are encouraged to share experiences, build networks, and devise actionable strategies to strengthen entrepreneurial initiatives within their respective institutions.

The overarching goal of the Faculty Mentor Development Programme is to build a robust network of trained and committed faculty mentors across the state. These mentors will serve as catalysts, guiding and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs in Uttarakhand. By capacitating faculty with contemporary entrepreneurial pedagogy and practical mentoring skills, the initiative contributes significantly to the entrepreneurial ecosystem within higher education and the broader community.

As part of this ongoing effort, 90 faculty members from universities and degree colleges across Uttarakhand will be selected and trained every year, thereby ensuring a sustainable and expanding cadre of entrepreneurship mentors in the state.

Through this concerted and structured approach, the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana aims to create a thriving entrepreneurial culture across Uttarakhand’s educational institutions, ultimately driving innovation, job creation, and inclusive economic growth in the region. So far 185 faculty members have been trained at EDII, Ahmedabad Campus.

A separate profile of each mentor has been prepared to indicate his/her qualification, specialisation, expertise, and contact details and published on the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana Website The Complete list of Faculty Mentors is attached to the report. Over the next five years, about 350 faculty mentors will be trained and groomed from across various institutions of the state.
